An accident involving a shortbed tanker truck and a pickup on Hwy. 21 west of Douglass has left one man dead and another injured, according to Department of Public Safety reports.
Reports are sketchy at this time, but DPS is reporting that the tanker traveling eastbound left the roadway, came back onto the roadway and struck the pickup truck traveling westbound near the Angelina River bridge. The tanker ended up upside down on the side of the westbound lane with the top of the cab ripped off, according to DPS at the scene. The driver of the tanker was transported with unknown injuries to the hospital. The man in the pickup had to be cut from the wreck and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A hazmat team was sent to the scene because it was originally believed the tanker had spilled its contents of an unknown chemical. The team discovered the spill was diesel fuel leaking from the tanker.
