A Nacogdoches police officer is in serious condition at a Tyler hospital after police say he was hit by a drunk driver early Monday morning.

NPD Sgt. Keith Hawkins was on his way to a non-emergency call when his 2008 Ford Police Interceptor was hit by a Ford pickup at 12:19 a.m. at the intersection of South and Seale streets, Nacogdoches Police Sgt. Greg Sowell said.

Tarcisio Chan-Ramirez, 31, is charged with intoxicated assault with a vehicle and remained in the Nacogdoches County Jail Monday morning on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold. Bond on the third-degree felony charge had not been set as of 8:30 a.m., according to jail records.

Hawkins was taken to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital and then taken by ambulance to a Tyler hospital, Sowell said.

"Right now he has serious injuries to his jaw and to his pelvis," he said. "We have some people up at the hospital now, but last I heard, his condition was still serious."

    what most people dont know:
when Immigration gets called on illegals, they take them to immigration jail ( I will call it, dont recall the proper name) in Houston, Dallas, Beaumont, keep them there for 3, 6 or maybe a little longer. Deport them back to Mexico, but these people turn around and come back within a week. So it doesnt do any good to call immigration bec/ when they are in jail, their spouse/ family already have a "coyote" for them to cross them back. So I would think its better to just keep them here and send them to prison, not Mexico!

Prayers go out to Keith and his family. I pray also that the intoxicated driver will not get bail, will go to jail and stay there for a very long time, will be deported and never allowed to re-enter the US. What is it going to take to get drunks and illegals off the streets?
