Firefighters battle house fire

Twenty firefighters spent 41⁄2 hours Tuesday fighting a blaze that destroyed an estimated 60 percent of a home in the 4000 block of FM 1878, said Keith Kiplinger, Nacogdoches Fire Department chief. Fire trucks were dispatched from Nacogdoches, Appleby, Swift-Shady Grove and Central Heights. No one was in the house, but there were multiple rooms and many items of property inside. Some firefighters suffered heat exhaustion and stress; although, no one was severely injured, the chief said. A cause for the fire, which started about 1:40 p.m., had not been determined as of Tuesday night, Kiplinger said.
