A Nacogdoches County man was killed Tuesday night accidentally when a tree fell on him.

Weston “Wes” Charles Wheeler, 48, died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident, which happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 300 block of CR 554 in the Kingtown community, according to the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office.

“My prayer warriors out there, my family needs you at this time. Heaven received another angel. Wes Wheeler my cousin you will forever be in my heart, and we will miss you terribly,” Linda Fountain said in a Facebook post.

Wheeler had hired someone, whom Sheriff Jason Bridges did not identify in a Wednesday afternoon news release, to trim trees on the property.

“A tree that was in the process of being cut down landed on the victim,” Bridges stated in the release. “The investigation is still ongoing, but this appears to be an accident and a terrible tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are go out to the Wheeler family.”

Funeral for Wheeler is set for 2 p.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home.
