Funeral service for Ray Shadden, 95, of Nacogdoches, will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 13, 2019, at Laird Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Sevar officiating. Interment will follow at Lower Melrose Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, July 12, 2019, at Laird Funeral Home.
Ray Shadden was called home to be with the Lord on July 4, 2019. Ray was born to N.A. and Fannie Isabella Shadden on March 26, 1924, along with a twin sister, Faye.
Ray joined the 187th Glider Infantry in 1943 and served till 1946. During his tour of service, he was a squad leader. He traveled through New Guinea, Southern Philippines, Luzon. He received the following: American Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze stars and 1 bronze arrowhead, Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, GO #18 HQ 11th INF Airborne Division 20 JAN 45 Victory Ribbon and 3 overseas service bars. When Ray returned home, he farmed with his dad, N.A. Shadden.
In October of 1955 he married Lucille (Mays) and they were married for 55 years until her passing on March 31, 2001.
Ray worked for Phillips Petroleum for 35 years. He was also a 50-year member of Milam Masonic Lodge #2 AF & AM and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille; parents, N.A. and Belle Shadden; sisters, Sue Dean Brown, Faye Armstrong; and brother, Jack Shadden.
He is survived by his brother, Billy Shadden, and wife, Janis of Weatherford, TX, and also by several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers for the service will be Michael Shadden, Jackie Shadden, Mike Butler, Allen Wade, Gary Armstrong, and Walt Causey.
A special thanks is given to Mr. and Mrs. Vernis Rogers and Calvary Baptist Church for their love and kindness to Ray.
