Lumberjack fans around the globe can relive the SFA Lumberjack basketball team’s historic 2013-14 season in the Southland Conference through the recent publication of “32-3: Stephen F. Austin’s Storybook Season.”
“This new book is our opportunity to chronicle the Lumberjack’s successful season, from the opening tip of the initial game to (Coach Brad Underwood) taking out his starters to a grand ovation and putting in his reserves in the final minute of his teams 67-50 season-ending loss to UCLA in the NCAA tournament,” Daily Sentinel Sports Editor Kevin Gore said in the book’s introduction. “It was the season of which coaches and players dream.”
Published through The Daily Sentinel and designed by news editor Meghan Waggoner, “32-3” is a conglomeration of articles by Gore that chronicles the Lumberjacks 29-game winning streak and 33-game home winning streak.
“I’m grateful that I got to be a part of the SFA basketball book,” Waggoner said. “Organizing and compiling Kevin Gore’s stories along with the photos made me feel like I was reliving the season. I hope the presentation reflects the tone of excitement that the fans and players experienced.”
Sentinel photographers And-rew Brosig and Gabby Rambo, along with photos contributed by Jeff Abt, provide a page-for-page recounting of emotional highs and lows felt by the fans and players alike.
The photo collection documents every one of the team’s successes in a game-for-game chronological layout.
“Kevin and Meghan have done a wonderful job in retelling SFA’s championship season,” Daily Sentinel Publisher Robin Land said. “They have produced a high-quality keepsake publication representative of a job well done by our SFA basketball team.”
The more than 100-page book can be purchased for $24.99, or $19.99 for SFA students and staff.
“The Daily Sentinel will place new book orders on Friday, May 23, and another one on May 30,” Land said. “After those two orders, all other purchases must be placed online.”
Bulk discounts also are available. With a purchase of 25 copies or more, the books will be $15.99 each. A purchase of five or more will be $19.99 each.
