Led by their 32-year coach who now has 701 win in her career, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks will look to continue their early season hot streak — and road stint — when they travel to Jonesboro, Ark. to take part in the three-day Arkansas State invitational beginning today.
The Ladyjacks will put their unbeaten 7-0 mark on the line when they battle host Arkansas State (4-2) today at 6:30 p.m. Action will continue on Friday with a match against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 4 p.m., before the Ladyjacks square off against Rice Saturday at 11 a.m. All three matches will be broadcast (audio) online at www.sfavolleyblog.net.
SFA is still one of 23 NCAA Division I volleyball teams in the nation that are unbeaten. The Ladyjacks are coming off a 4-0 trip in winning the Northwestern Under Armour Challenge last weekend.
The team’s unbeaten start is its best in team history heading into today’s action.
Junior middle blocker Taya Mitchell was named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week. She averaged a team-leading 1.57 blocks per set to help SFA limit its competition to a collective attack percentage of .125 in the four matches in the seven-day span. Mitchell leads the SLC and ranks 11th nationally with 1.74 blocks per set.
Ladyjack head coach Debbie Humphreys became the 11th NCAA Division I head coach to reach the 700-win plateau last week. Her 701 wins is 10th-most by an active NCAA Division I coach.
