A pair of Nacogdoches Youth Softball Association squads coached by R.C. Garrett recently completed dominating seasons in their respective age groups, as the Dugout Divas and Dugout Divas 2 swept the USA Softball of Texas Girls 14-and-Under and 10-and-Under 2019 Gold State Tournament twin titles in Lufkin recently.

In addition to capturing the 14U and 10U respective state titles, the Nacogdoches squads also won their league and district titles, as well.


After posting a 9-1 regular season record — including capturing their final nine games of the regular season — the Dugout Divas 14U squad advanced through the district tournament to advance to State play.

In the opening game of bracket play in the Texas North State Tournament in Lufkin, the Divas defeated the Nitro, 12-1, before outlasting the TC Elite, 8-1, and then capturing the state title with a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Texas Slam Bush.

Members of the Dugout Divas include Hailey John, Makayla Tanner, JaKyria Chatman, Gizelle Ojeda, ShaKiah Wade, Journee Page, Zaryiah Williams, SaDadrea Roberts, Kylee Jo Snider and L.T. Garrett. The team’s assistant coaches are Kenny Roberts and DeKovin Williams.


The Dugout Divas 2, a 10-and-Under squad, won its league title with a 9-1 season mark, posting victories in their last seven games.

They moved through the district and state tournaments, respectively, capturing the USA Softball of Texas Girls 10-and-Under Gold State Championship in Lufkin with a 2-1 victory over the Lady Destroyers.

Assistant coaches for the Dugout Divas 2 are Tony Giese and Sam Morris. Team members are Jamarria Gallien, Rodashia Robertson, Addison Griese, Arlette Castillo, Courtney Claude, Kamryn Morris, Averey Pate, Camila Sifuentes, Lexie Rios, Jayla Garrett and Alyssa Faires.
