Mountain playground

RED RIVER, N.M. — I hate to say it to all my friends who are melting back in Texas, but it is a brisk 37 degrees where I am at. The early morning sun is just beginning to poke its head above the Sangre de Christo mountain range, and, believe it or not,  there is a thin layer of frost twinkling on the car windshields in the driveway. Forecasters say outside temperatures might reach the upper 70s this afternoon before the sun sinks behind Gold Hill, a scenic mountain peak that towers above Goose Lake on one side and Taos Ski Valley on the other.
